Wedding Photography | Rust Manor House | Leesburg

Rust Manor House is located on the western edge of Leesburg. It sits on about 68 acres of woods and meadows. And is a very unique place to have a wedding! The grounds are amazing and I believe that the Cedar of Lebanon tree is the only one in Virginia. The bridal suite and groom’s cottage are sweet! I was lucky to shoot this property and it DIDN’T rain! Well, it did, but I was done and driving home. Kristina made a lovely bride and braved the extreme heat. Also, a big thank you to the The Flower Gallery of Manassas for providing the beautiful flowers!for the bouquet!

Confessions of a Portrait Photographer

My parents took us on outdoor adventures almost every weekend. And from an early age (9-10), I always carried a camera. I loved capturing the landscapes, our dogs, or fun stuff that we would do as kids…as you can see from the couple of images. Nothing earth shattering…but I was also working with a 110 film camera.

This particular day , (I was about 10 and my brother 7) I was hungry for something a wee bit more exciting…so my brother was walking beside me. To his left was a “slight” drop off leading down to a gully filled with leaves. As we were walking, I spied a root coming up on the trail. I knew if I gave my brother a slight nudge, he would loose his footing and instinctively grab the root. I got my finger ready on the camera…and then gave a little push. AND BINGO, the action shot I saw in my head!!! Back in those days, we had to wait for the film to be developed. I was ecstatic when I saw this photo. Luckily, my parents didn’t punish me too much; they encouraged my creativity!

My brother on the other hand…has worked the story into a HUGE “fish story!” At his wedding, all his friends and future relatives came up to me and said…”so, you’re the sister that pushed him off the CLIFF, for a photo.” They also mentioned the time I tried to jump him with my ten-speed bike and missed, that was my Evel Knievel phase…luckily for him that phase died quickly!

The Trey Schneider Band

This shoot turned out fantastic! At 4:30 when we were heading to the farm to meet the band, the sky opened up and the rain poured…perfect! NOT…there went my best laid plans. But in the world of photography, you always MUST have a plan B! The barn proved to be a great backdrop and a make-shift studio.

I met The Trey Schneider Band at last year’s YFT Country Fair. I took some candids of them at the fair, but knew I would like to do some more creative shots with them. So we were finally able to get our schedules together…and wa-la…a shoot was born!

Here is a bit from their website “T prodigally he Trey Schneider Band is a group of talented musicians out of Northern Virginia who all have a passion for music. Between Them all they have a wide range of influences from Hank Jr to Van Halen and it shows in the way they play. There energy and humorous personalities combined with the great music they play makes for a awesome show. They have there very own collection of originals and they combine there influences to attract fans of modern country, Rock and for those of you like many of us who still crave some johnny cash and Waylon Jennings. They put there heart and soul into there music hoping to reach out to people around the world to share it with.”

Humpback Bridge, Covington VA

I had the opportunity to photograph one more of Virginia’s historical landmarks…The Humpback bridge. This bridge is the oldest covered bridge in Virginia. I have only one more bridge to photograph to make the collection complete! I will say though, I was sad about all the vandalism to the inside of this bridge…of all the ones I had photographed–this one is the worst! I wish folks could respect the beauty of these works of art more!
