This lovely lady came to me to celebrate herself. She had lost over 85 pounds at the time of her shoot. She is living her best life. It was an honor to photograph her and get to be a part of her journey. Are you ready to celebrate yourself?
I am a daughter, a mother and grandmother. I have three grown beautiful daughters — I am super proud of them. You’d probably expect a mom to say that — but I would also choose my daughters as friends!! They are cool women!! The little one is my first granddaughter! She and I were born at the same hospital many years apart. Back in the fall, I claimed May 4 as my Mother’s Day present to myself. I told everyone that they must be part of the photoshoot. As your children get older and have their own families, it is harder and harder to get everyone in ONE place at the same time! I will cherish these photos forever!!! When is the last time you’ve had portraits taken with your loved ones? Don’t wait!!
I got to photograph Prince William Living’s Influential Women of 2018! So much amazing energy and community here among these women! It is truly an honor to be in the same community with these 5 women!! A few years ago, 2015 to be exact, is when I met Deb Trnka; it was at Prince William Chamber event. The event was my first and Deb could sense that I was feeling lost in a sea of people I didn’t know. She was so friendly and authentic!! We also had a instant connection over shoes, we both love fun shoes!! Not only is she a fellow shoe connoisseur, a wonderful person and a fantastic financial advisor with Edward Jones; she is a connector of people and her heart, well, it is so big, not sure how it even fits inside her body; ) As I continued to grow with the Chamber, I saw Deb more and more. Then as I got to know her story, and I was even more drawn to her and her mission!! Again, I say this, I am so thankful for the amazing WOMEN I have met along my journey of being an entrepreneur — #mytribe
It’s time for my Cool Woman for September!! This beautiful lady and I met at a workshop in May of 2017. There was an instant connection, like the one you get when you meet someone for the first time, but it feels like you have known them your whole life. I love her answer to what inspires her — I will tell you that she IS one of the kindest people I have ever met!! When we first met at that workshop, I had a broken wrist and was having trouble navigating with my cast. Emily was so helpful and kind to me. After the workshop, we then became accountability partners, sharing our goals and dreams for our photography businesses! It has been a short friendship, but we are just getting started!! DG – What led you into becoming a photographer?
EM– Growing up, photography was an important part of my life. Our family would watch home movies on Sundays and it was always such a treat! I will never forget the sound the projector made. Pictures were a way our family came together. Well, fast forward to having children and I was addicted. Photography was a way of documenting their lives and my creative outlet. As I took photographs, I learned more about myself and what I value.
DG– Pick three words to describe your work?
EM– Passion, Service, Giving
DG– What kinds of things do you like to do outside of your work?
EM– Spending time with my family and being present in my life. Calling my girlfriends. Taking time for my self care and renewal.
DG– What is your favorite place that you have traveled to?
EM– San Francisco has my heart. The most beautiful place and so much to see.
DG– What is something that inspires you?
EM– Kindness inspires me, it is my true joy.
DG– If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self what would it be?
EM– I am enough.
DG– What is it that you want your work/art to do?
EM– Connect with people in a way that touches their hearts. To bring you into a space that takes you back into a moment that will hold it’s place in time.
