This one has been brewing in my head for a while- I saw a magazine spread in Vogue Italia a few years back and wanted to try a monochromatic shoot!! Throughout the shoot, I tried different things in front of my lens, creating different effects. Thanks to Rachel for modeling — her Dad came to pick her up at the end and said. “Wow” and I said, I know, one day, I will photograph your daughter in a “normal” way : )) you may remember, Rachel as the Queen of Hearts.

We started with a natural look and progressed into a fashion style and for the grand finale: STEAM PUNK! I just love Steam Punk. And as soon as A saw the steam punk goggles, and I told her about my vision for her, she was in!!! We had a brilliant time and created some amazing images!!!

A Girl and her Horse | Haymarket Portrait Photographer
GG came in to celebrate!! GG and her mom wanted a vintage Victorian look. I was HAPPY to style this look. GG actually wore her grandmother’s broach in the studio portion of our shoot. After the studio portraits, we moved to the stable where GG’s horse is kept. It was a wee bit chilly but GG and her horse did so great!! And we had to throw in some top hat at the end!!

Mother Time | Fantasy Portraits Manassas Virginia
I always like to shoot creatively for myself. Sometimes my ideas start with a concept, vision or feeling. This particular shoot was inspired by Father Time. I wanted to create a “Mother Time” but with a more fashion feel. There was a cartoon that was played every Christmastime about Father Time. I loved it. Also, I am a geek about time travel. I love to watch any movie on time travel and I am truly fascinated by worm holes! So, one of the photos I created in camera a vibe or a wormhole. And then, I had the model try on one of my new dresses from the studio style closet!

Why is everything always about Alice? I just love the Queen of Hearts. Her quirky style and sense of humor. There have been many different looks for the Queen of Hearts. This is kind of my ‘vogue’ interpretation of the Queen of Hearts. I had a local printer make 300 Queen of Heart cards for me!! When I first get an idea for a shoot of this kind, it usually starts with one particular vision. The image of her lying on the cards is the original image that started this shoot. BUT I ending up LOVING the cards in the air the most. From my years of shooting, I have realized to be open to the creative process. Sometimes that original vision is just a catalyst for the artwork!!
